Nigeria General Update (16/06)
Updated: Sep 22
It’s been almost 2 months since we opened our Field Isolation and Treatment Centre on April 22nd and we have treated over 250 people for Covid 19. We started with mostly mild symptomatic cases but as the infection rate has been climbing up the curve, we have started seeing more moderate to severe cases, and hence had to open our ICU about 2 weeks ago.
We are really proud to have successfully looked after and discharged a 98 year old lady who is the oldest Covid patient in Lagos this far!
Regarding challenges, we are faced with an uphill task for ICU care almost all equipment, Consumables and drugs are imported and we have to rely on the global supply chain which is currently so fraught with the amount of global demand being pointed at it! Much needed oxygen is also in short supply so we have to be efficient, using oxygen concentrators where possible.
Nevertheless, our team of front-line workers are really upbeat and doing their very best and we can’t thank them enough!!
