UPDATE ON KEY MILESTONES ACHIEVED:
Reconfigured our cast film extrusion line to produce 79 micron polyethylene plastic fabric for manufacturing protective protective gown.
Directly created employment for 50 informal sector workers (from the Jua Kali who are engaged to sew polyethylene into protective gowns.
Received Kenya Bureau of Standards certification for protective gown.
UPDATE ON PILLAR GOAL / STRATEGY:
Providing more affordable full body protection for frontline essential workers in high traffic areas who are at the highest risk of contracting COVID 19
The gowns are manufactured locally which creates employment and safeguards against disruptions in supply.
TARGET ACHIEVEMENTS FOR THE NEXT 4 WEEKS:
Improve the effectiveness of the Protective Gown by replacing sewing with heat sealing and introducing die cutting for higher efficiency.
Deploy PPE’s in stock to frontline workers.
ANY BLOCKERS OR AREAS CO-CHAIRS NEED HELP:
Engage funding partners to avail the protective gowns to at-risk frontline workers
Support in PR & Communications to raise awareness
Sourcing Die Cutting & Hand Sealing equipment to semi-automate the work for Jua Kali Tailors (informal sector workers)
