SAFETY AND SECURITY VERTICLE EXPLAINED:

BACKGROUND:

South Africa, along with the rest of the world, is fighting the COVID epidemic. South Africa has been put into lockdown allowing only “essential” services to operate. The lockdown may continue for an indefinite period of time or may be lifted in stages. YPO’ers and their families regard their Safety and Security as a priority.

INTRODUCTION:

Various initiatives (verticals) are underway to benefit and consolidate YPO efforts in Africa and assist YPO’ers in their decision making. The Safety and Security vertical can only assist in South Africa initially but may at a later stage seek to incorporate other countries. The Safety and Security initiative aims to;

  1. Gather and Disseminate - verified information (to the best of our ability) from the Private Security Industry and National Government with regards to updates affecting the Safety and Security of South African people and businesses. No unverified information will be disseminated.

  2. Identify and Communicate - the threat levels in South Africa, as they apply to an increase in risk to the YPO’er and their family and business. This is in relation to the ADDITIONAL threat from the CV19 virus, above what would be considered “normal” in South Africa.

  3. Educate - relevant and topical resources to exposed to members via Webinar or other platforms.

HOW WILL THE ABOVE WORK:

1. Information Gathering and Dissemination:

  • YPO’ers are asked to send any verified Safety and Security related matters through to either of the Co-Chairs directly via Whattsapp ( Sedise +27829604418 or Clive +27824936119).

  • A core Safety and Security sub-committee will be established, compromising of no more than 5 members with “high level” access to various government Security clusters or Persons.

  • It is critical that ONLY VERIFIED information will be sent through. Members must be willing to “put” their names to the information/video clips as The S&S committee does not have the resources to verify all incoming information.

  • The S&S sub committee will meet in accordance with the threat level as outlined in .2 and disseminate relevant information via a broadcast Safety and Security Telegram group.

2. Identify and Communicate the Perceived Threat level as it applies to YPO’ers:

Green:

  • There is no tangible threat level above what would be considered normal in South Africa.

  • The S&S committee will meet 2x per week.

Yellow:

  • There are signs that an increased level of criminal activity may be imminent.

  • Safety and Security plans should begin to be formulated for personal, residential and business security.

  • The S&S committee will meet 3x per week.

Orange:

  • The Security committee has noticed a significant increase in crime and/or has received credible information that the lives/assets of YPO’ers may be in danger.

  • The S&S committee will meet 5x per week.

Red:

  • There is wide-scale looting and crime as a direct result of CV19’.

  • The S&S committee will meet daily or as often as is required

YPO, VALUE ADD SERVICES: (If the threat level moves from)

GREEN TO YELLOW:

The S&S committee will send pointers and pertinent information, via the broadcast group, to members to assist in preparing a personal/business safety & security plan. Additional and specialised resources from outside of YPO may be brought in to assist.

YELLOW TO ORANGE:

The S&S committee will hold a Zoom call to assist and answer questions with regard to finalising a personal/company Safety and Security plan. The committee will source specialist service providers in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban to assist YPO’ers (on a user pay basis) with their security needs.

ORANGE TO RED:

The S&S committee will set up a 24 hr Emergency call centre to assist YPO’ers with crisis management and SAPS/Military liaison to the best of their ability.

3. Educate:

Where possible we will get relevant speakers on topics of importance and host webinars as well as push relevant articles, news clips and videos to the members.
